Responsible Gambling

Gambling is entertainment that costs money. It is never a way to make money or to fix money problems. Over time, the casino always has the edge.

This page covers simple rules that help, the warning signs to watch for, and where to find free help.

Five rules before you play

  1. Set a budget you can afford to lose. Only use money left over after bills, rent and food.
  2. Set a deposit limit at the casino. Do it before you start. Most casinos let you set daily, weekly or monthly limits in your account settings.
  3. Set a time limit. Decide in advance how long you will play, and stop when the time is up.
  4. Never chase losses. Trying to win back what you have lost usually means losing more.
  5. Don’t play when you are upset, stressed or have been drinking.

Warning signs

Ask yourself honestly:

If you answered yes to any of these, it may be time to take a break and talk to someone.
